Chilean miners hold service at the scene of rescue

Some of the Chilean miners and their loved ones back to the site of their dramatic rescue on Sunday for a religious service at the mouth of the copper and gold mine where they were detained for 69 days.

Among the first to come to Sunday was Juan Carlos Aguilar and his young daughter, who spent a few moments walking around the area that was almost a tomb for employees after a collapse of the deep subsurface.

The long rescue operation and the outpouring of emotion captured the attention of the world, and the dramatic finale was broadcast live on many networks around the world on Wednesday. Read more

33 chile minersRescue workers at the San Jose gold and copper mine in northern Chile this week had reason to sing. A small hole drilled into the earth was a passage to freedom of thirty-three trapped miners. She spent nine sixty days underground. “Never have people imprisoned for as long as deep,” said a doctor at NASA, the U.S. space agency, which helped in the rescue.

But the chief medical officer for the miners said that most are in good enough health to leave the hospital within a day or so. The first three were discharged from hospital Thursday evening.

For much of the day the miners relax with Chilean President Sebastian Pinera. The thirty-two Chileans and a Bolivian still wore special sunglasses to protect their eyes. Read more

33 Chile miners joy as rescue tunnel reaches underground space

The 33 miners buried for nearly half a mile below the Chilean desert yesterday cheered and hugged as a drilling rig and reached their underground prison.

The breakthrough came just after 8 hours, as the fog slowly lifted Camp Hope, the tented settlement at San Jose copper and gold mine, where family and the world media are waiting for the trapped men free.

The miners underground survived longer than anyone else in history, responded with cheers in a live video link and the tip of the hammer drill broke through the roof of their underground workshop. “We can see the nose,” cried a miner. “It is through, it is.” Read more

Thousand Job vacancies for Chile trapped miners

SANTIAGO, Chile – Chile the 33 trapped miners have something to think about: their next job. Bulldozer driver, mechanic, electrician. And here she can find some particularly useful: “risk reduction specialist” and “escape tunnel borer.”

Two dozen companies with operations in Chile, more than 1,000 jobs created, the trapped miners and their employees in an offside 317 job fair this week. Even if they choose to go back to the mining, the work will not necessarily be underground and will almost certainly be a company with a better safety than their current employer wrestling.

Jobs left out pot of gold mining

Australia is about to be showered in more income than ever before mining, but little will move on to a job, according to the budget papers. The volume of the minerals shipped overseas must climb 20 percent over the next two years. The mining industry is set to invest a record 76 billion U.S. dollars in 2011-12, about eight times the amount it spent before the tree, and 380 billion U.S. dollars of investment funds in the pipeline. Gulf Oil Spill Response, BP says Cost increases to $ 6.1 billion

bp oil spill 2010LONDON – BP PLC oil giant (BP) said Monday the cost of compensation and clean up her huge leak in the Gulf of Mexico has now risen to 6.1 billion U.S. dollars. The news comes after the British company said Sunday that a test for the cementing operation is needed to fully plug its troubled well is successful. NZ oil spill beach cleanup continues

Voluntary efforts for oil spills in New Zealand Bay of Plenty beaches of the grounded ship Rena will be at noon on Saturday to clean. The ship grounded off the Tauranga coast earlier this month, spilling hundreds of tons of oil. Two clean-up efforts will take place in Papamoa – Pamoa the Surf Club and across from the Logan Road beach access, and third will be held at the corner of Kulim Avenue and Harbour Drive, Otumoetai.
