Blow-out company BP pays £ 160m for Gulf oil spill. BP receives a $ 250m (£ 161m) payment of Cameron International, a contractor on the Macondo well, in settlement of their dispute over liability for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The United States loaded the bulk of the blame for the country’s largest ever offshore oil spill at BP on Wednesday as the government issued its final assessment of the Gulf of last year’s disaster. BP seized on a report better than expected quarterly results Tuesday as further evidence that its activity is rebounding and that the company quickly put the worst of the Gulf oil slick behind.
Although third quarter results were substantially less than one year ago, BP returned to profit after the deadly explosion rig Deepwater Horizon in April the second quarter results sent in red.
The third quarter net profit fell to $ 1,790,000,000 from $ 5,340,000,000 in the period from July to September one year ago. The London-based oil major profits achieved, despite a huge load – 7.7 billion U.S. dollars – for spill-related costs. The charge was higher than analysts expected and a great reminder of the continuing toll of the disaster on the farm. Read more
BP rolled out Wednesday the results of a four months investigation into the causes of the April 20 explosion of its Macondo oil wells in the Gulf of Mexico, spreading the blame on its contractors and giving a glimpse of the defense could be implemented in public and in court.
The long-awaited report that a “complex and interrelated series of failures – of equipment, engineering and judgment – has led to the sharp rise in oil and gas that exploded on the deck of the Deepwater Horizon rig, killing 11 people, sinking the rig and the worst oil spill in U.S. history.

Demand for gold in South Korea will increase as consumers buy more bars and encourage investments such as currencies weaken, according to Korea Exchange Inc., which expects increased trade in ‘mini-futures contract.
“Koreans are more interested in gold than other commodities, regarding it as an investment tool,” Kim In Soo, an executive director to the operator of stock and futures markets, said in an interview yesterday. COASTAL BEND – Gas prices in Corpus Christi fell six cents overnight to 2.59 dollars a gallon after reaching the $ 2.65 mark, the highest in recent months. The least expensive gas in the area Monday was $ 2.44 in Aransas Pass, followed by $ 2.48 in Portland and Ingleside.
