BP oil is degrading on Gulf floor, study says
Tar balls washed on the Gulf of Mexico beaches by Tropical Storm Lee earlier this month show that oil left over from last year, BP’s leak is to break down as quickly as some scientists thought it would, university researchers Tuesday.
Auburn University experts tar samples examined at the request of the coastal leaders said the latest wave of sticky orbs and lumps appeared relatively fresh, strong smell and were little changed from the chemically weathered oil on Gulf beaches collected during the spill. (more…)

BP’s oil spill disaster contributed to cost savings, the federal probe finds
A 16-month federal investigation has concluded that BP’s efforts to reduce costs well reduce the miles-deep Macondo in the Gulf of Mexico has contributed to the outbreak last year that 11 workers slain, sank the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig and created the largest oil spill in U.S. history.
The long-awaited report of the Office of Ocean Energy Management, monitoring and enforcement catalogs dozens of mistakes, misunderstandings, risky decisions and failures of communication that led to the eruption and the 87-day spill that nearly 5 million barrels of oil spewed into the Gulf.

Chevron confirms the Gulf of Mexico oil spill
A leak of crude oil a shallow water pipeline in the Main Pass area of the Gulf of Mexico led Chevron to shut down the offshore Louisiana Main Pass network of pipelines, the company said on Tuesday. Chevron has also been closed Cypress line, the company said. Approximately 15,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil production was shut down due to leaks in the pipeline, Chevron said. The company said late on Tuesday, a partial production to resume within 24 hours. (more…)

United States Blame BP for Gulf Oil Spill
