Asian Stocks Gain on Metal Prices, China Earnings; Takeda Drops

The euro has strengthened and the yen weakened on speculation European economic confidence will improve. The gains in copper has increased mining companies from Asian countries.

The euro rose to ¥ 124.62 at 1:10 pm in Tokyo from ¥ 124.06 in New York on March 26. Copper for delivery in three months in London rose 1.6 percent to $ 7635 per tonne as inventories SLID. China’s Shanghai Composite Index rose 2.1 percent to the highest level in over two months. A gauge of materials producers in the MSCI Asia Pacific rose 0.5 percent. Australia & P / ASX 200 Index fell 0.4 percent to 4,635.10 at the close of trading in Sydney. New Zealand’s NZX 50 Index gained 0.2 percent to 3,107.09 in Wellington. The following are among the most active shares on the market. Stock symbols in parentheses after company names.

Ardent Leisure Group (ADA AU), trust that invests in Australian Leisure and entertainment properties, fell 4.5 percent to $ 1.49 after the stock was downgraded to “hold” from “buy” at Deutsche Bank AG.

Commodities: U.S. sees biggest drop in gasoline stocks in 12 years

According to the EIA’s “This Week in Petroleum” report, U.S. crude stocks rose by 1.6mbbl to 359.3mbbl in the week ended April 8, whereas in Cushing, Oklahoma, was increased by 26,000 BBL to 41.9mbbl. More significantly, total gasoline inventories declined by an impressive 7mbbl to 209.7mbbl, compared with one year ago figure of 221.3mbbl. The decline was the largest weekly decline in 12 years and was seven times greater than the pull-down predicted in a Bloomberg survey. The main factors responsible were a 3.7% increase in demand for gasoline and a 3% drop in refinery utilization. Distillate stocks also fell, by 2.7mbbl to 150.8mbbl but still year ago levels.
