Miners rescued after my accident southwest Colombia
Eight miners were trapped in a mine near Cali in response to a collapsing axis, were rescued alive by rescuers on Tuesday.
The workers were able to leave my ten hours after the accident.
“The auxiliary material removed propping up the mines and the miners by luck managed to get out alive,” Cali Mayor Jorge Ivan Ospina told reporters.
The mayor added that all the miners “are good and this rescue was achieved by the fast action of the emergency organizations and the cooperation of my staff.”
Mine accidents are relatively common in Colombia, in January, 21 miners died in a gas explosion in a coal mine in the northeast of the country.
In 2010 there were 84 reported emergencies in the mines, killing 173 miners in the country.

Mayors in central China’s Henan Province will be fired when an accident at a coal mine in their offers kills over 50 people, according to a new policy issued by the provincial authorities. The move is the latest attempt to enhance coal mine safety in a major coal-producing province of China. Henan coal output reached 179 million tons last year, while 35 miners 266 slain mining accidents.

All 29 workers trapped in a flooded coal mine in southwest China’s Sichuan province have been taken to safety, ending a day rescue operation, China Central Television reported.
The miners were wrapped in quilts by paramedics as they emerged from the pit to the applause of a crowd gathered at the entrance, the state broadcaster showed. Rescuers took about one hour between the release of the first and last employee.
China, the holder of the worst mine safety record in the world, is to merge small mining and closing unlicensed producers to protect workers. Last year the government closed 1,088 small coal mines which are considered unsafe, thus reducing fatalities by 18 percent to 2,631. Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the jailed former head of Yukos Oil Co., faces more prison under a new conviction for embezzlement of 29 billion U.S. dollars of crude oil, a verdict that the governments in the U.S. and Europe said the law weakened in Russia .
Khodorkovsky and his former business partner, Platon Lebedev, already serving eight years for fraud and tax evasion penalties under a 2005 conviction may be sentenced this week or after January 10, when Russia New Year holidays end, their lawyers said. The men face six years in prison, the defense team said.
“The process was a charade of Justice, the cost was absolutely false, but I fear the verdict will be very real,” Vadim Klyuvgant, the lead lawyer, said yesterday in a statement.
