China has 13 research and development began with emergency response mechanisms for nuclear power plants in case of improvement of “extreme emergencies”, the official Xinhua news agency reported, citing a statement from the National Energy Administration. The projects are aimed at improving safety-related technology used in nuclear power plants in China plants and will be conducted by China National Nuclear Corp, China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Corp. and the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology in cooperation with the Tsinghua University, Xinhua said. The projects will be completed around 2013, it said.
The research results will be used to core damage frequency and large early release frequency of the reactors to reduce, Xinhua said, citing the administration.
