IEA increases the Gulf of Mexico output loss to 100,000 barrels per day

IEA Raises Gulf of MexicoThe International Energy Agency raised its forecast for the Gulf of Mexico oil production losses of up to 100,000 barrels per day in 2011 due to crude spill BP plc and the subsequent deep water drilling ban. The leakage from Macondo to the output of the Gulf with 60,000 barrels per day this year, Paris-based IEA said in its monthly report today. The agency has doubled the estimate of last month when he said that the reduction of 100,000 barrels in May to increase to 300,000 barrels per day in 2015.

The new volume is based on the assumption that a handful of identified projects will be delayed by 6-12 months, “the IEA said, without an update on 2015 guidance. “That said, compared to offshore Gulf of Mexico’s total production, the effect is still relatively small.”

Barack Obama’s presidential committee, which investigates BP’s oil spill, the world’s largest accidental spill, the administration has requested a temporary ban on drilling in deep water must be lifted for certain rigs. The six-month moratorium has been criticized by industry and some lawmakers because of lost business and rising unemployment in the Gulf Coast States.

Marathon Oil Corp., the fourth largest U.S. power producer, was the last of Gulf oil producers a new project launched after the publication of 07.19 on her first deep water pumps Droshky project. The pumps can peak at approximately 51,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, the company said in November.
