Australian coal mining group tycoon plans new facility


Australian mining magnate Clive Palmer GroupAustralian mining magnate Clive Palmer Group plans to build a new coal loading facility in Queensland, north of an existing facility at Abbot Point, capable of handling 40 million tonnes per year, a newspaper reported Monday. The Australian newspaper said the move could be the transformation of the area resulting in one of the largest coal ports in the world.

Abbot Point in north Queensland is due to be sold as part of a government privatization plan, the plan and its coal-loading capacity is 21 million tonnes from an upgrade to 50 million tonnes.

The paper said Palmer of his plan to build coal-loading, after two sites at Abbot Point was awarded to BHP Billiton (BHP.AX) (BLT.L) and prospecting Hancok. “We plan to bring 40 million tonnes per year through here, and we are building our own jetty,” Palmer was quoted by the newspaper as saying. Documents had been submitted to the Government and was in the public consultation phase, the process will be wrapped by the end of the year, Palmer added.
