copper mineALMATY – An explosion three copper miners in central Kazakhstan slain on Sunday, mine owner Kazakhmys said. Kazakhmys is the world’s eighth largest copper miner, and its shares are traded on the London Stock Exchange. A spokeswoman business, reading a news statement, said fourth miner was wounded in the explosion, which is about 1000 local time (0400 GMT) on Stepnoi underground mine in the city Satpayev, Karaganda region.

Kazakhmys said it had set up a special commission to determine the cause of the explosion to investigate.

Kazakhmys expects production of approximately 300,000 tonnes of copper cathode this year. It recently signed contracts for all sales in 2010, signaling a strong demand for copper worldwide, including in China, the world’s largest consumer.
