WASHINGTON (Reuters) – BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg on Tuesday apologized for speaking of “clumsy” to refer to those hurt by oil spill from his company as “little people.” “I spoke this afternoon clumsy and that saddens me,” Svanberg said in a statement after his remarks following a meeting of the White House with President Barack Obama earlier on Wednesday drew widespread ridicule and condemnation.
“What I was trying to say – that BP will understand how deeply this affects the lives of people living along the Gulf and depend for their livelihood – will best be conveyed not through words but through the work we do to put right things for families and businesses that are hurt, “said Svanberg.
After his meeting with Obama, the BP executive, in Swedish, apologized for the oil spill and he tried his concern for the victims of environmental disaster to bring.
