The Secretary of State for Western and Northern Australia, Gary Gray, said on Monday the state business lobby group has been hypocritical in its opposition to the proposed super-profits. Western Australia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) opposes the tax, but also has released a report predicting the state will need 500,000 more workers over the next 10 years mining sector growth process. Gray said that the Board is contradictory and needs to clarify its position.
“The CCI and the mining lobby has maintained will simply destroy the industry, but we know from our own projections that the industry happily prepares for 500,000 new jobs created in the sector,” he said.
Chief Executive of the CCI, James Pearson, said the data supporting the report was gathered for the announcement of the federal government.
“If the super tax would be applied than in its current form which we need to figure out exactly work out what the effect would not be alone in the van the economic state, but over the toekomstige job prospects for workers in WA,” said he said.
